OEC2018 is proud to be the first Ontario Engineering Competition to offer the Re-Engineering competition! Traditionally, Re-Engineering was a competition that was run at the Canadian Engineering Competition, but never offered at the Ontario Engineering Competition. This year Re-Engineering is being run at the Ontario Engineering Competition to increase the competitiveness of Ontario Re-Engineering teams at the Canadian Engineering Competition and to create a provincial competition that more closely reflects the Canadian Engineering Competition.
Increasingly, engineers are expected to improve and optimize seemingly commonplace products that surround us. Re-engineering is the act of taking an existing engineering concept, product, technique, or technology and incrementally improving on its design to suit an alternate situation or application.
Competitors will be required to apply the re-engineering process to an existing gadget or mechanism in order to add new functionality to it or enhance its original functionality. While teams attempt to re-engineer an existing product, they will have to develop their design under a new set of constraints while accounting for economic impact. Solutions are judged based on practicality, originality, feasibility and marketability.
Competitors in all years of engineering studies are eligible for participation.
To be determined.
